Preventing Single Strand Knots on Natural Hair

If you have been natural for any amount of time no doubt you’ve run into some single strand knots! They are the teeny tiny balls at the ends of your strands that wreak all kinds of damaging havoc. Recently I realized that I couldn’t get rid of them even after a fresh trim. I protective styled and still got them and even trimmed the SSK’s off a second time but none of that helped! I had to think long and hard about some of my newer practices to see what I could pinpoint. I put together my suggestions in a video so check it out below.
P.S. If you know of any other possible reasons that people get knots or have any tips to avoid single strand knots feel free to share in the comments! Let us know if you are having this problem and what you’ve done to minimize the problem.

Alikay Naturals Products are awesome!

First off I know you’ve already read the title and can safely assume that I’m going to be talking about how great Alikay Naturals Products are, so let me get into the talk up. Alright so I bought a few Alikay Naturals products during the Black Friday sale of 2015. I had held off until that time because I thought the products were a little too pricey to just pay to test them out. I needed that sale! Anyway, I got my 3 products for a great price and I set out to use them. P.S. if you don’t feel like reading the whole article then check out my video review at the bottom of the page.

The Honey Sage Deep Conditioner

I didn’t buy the shampoo because I just don’t review shampoos. They all seem to work the same to me. If I ever find some special shampoo that does something other than clean then I’ll let y’all know.

Honey & Sage Deep Conditioner made my hair soft like butter

Anyway, I used a shampoo that I already had and followed up with the Honey and Sage Deep Conditioner to soften and add moisture back to my hair. The packaging says that it contains natural and organic ingredients. The featured ingredients are honey, babassu oil and sage.
HoneyHumectant that binds moisture into your hair
Babassu OilPenetrates hair to diminish dryness and itchy scalp
SageIncreases scalp circulation and skin renewal
This conditioner is thick, rich and chock full of botanical “stuff”. You can visibly see the sage in the mixture. After smoothing through my hair I noticed that my hair immediately softened up and allowed for very easy detangling. Even finger detangling was a breeze with this stuff in my hair. I sat under my hooded dryer for maximum moisturizing results, but you can also use it without heat. (The jar also says that you can use this as a hair mask before washing but I haven’t used it this way). My results after rinsing it out were wonderful. I loved the moisturized feeling that it gave my hair and it was very easy to manipulate.

#TIP: Apply to wet hair! I found that it didn’t distribute as easily after I towel dried.

Lemongrass Leave in Conditioner

After getting out of the shower from my deep conditioning session I was ready to moisture my hair for real. The first thing that I usually use is a leave in and that’s why I had to try this product.

The Lemongrass leave in leaves your hair moisturized and smooth.

I have high porosity hair and the word lemon being in it made me think that it would have a nice acidic formula to help lay down my cuticles. Boy oh boy did I dig this stuff. It is a bright yellow liquid gel sort of leave in. It comes in a spray pump bottle and pumps out the soft gel like product effectively. I haven’t had a clog yet! The smell is very sweet. It smells just like lemon heads candy to me. The Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave-In went on smoothly and made my hair even more soft than the deep conditioner. I could feel the difference immediately. My hair remained easy to comb and/or finger detangle even after it started drying. That is not something I can say about a lot of leave ins. I often have to twist it up immediately after application or my hair will draw up on the other strands and start tangling up again. The featured ingredients are silk amino protein, aloe vera, and lemongrass oil
Silk Amino ProteinNourishes and rebuilds damaged hair cuticle
Aloe VeraMoisturizes and strengthens cortex of damaged hair
Lemongrass OilReduces hair shedding, promotes shine and volume

#TIP: I was told by my youtube subscribers that I could add aloe vera juice or aloe vera gel to stretch this product!

Shea Yogurt Hair Moisturizer

I had been dying to try this product from back when the owner Rochelle first formulated it years ago when she was a youtuber.

Shea Yogurt Hair Moisturizer is an amazing sealant

She constantly raved about it and I imagined it to be some sort of protein treatment because it had the word yogurt in it. Well there is no actual yogurt or milk products in it. As a matter of fact, it is called a moisturizer when it is not. The Shea Yogurt Hair Moisturizer is actually a sealant. It doesn’t contain water and you need water in a product for it to be classified as a moisturizer. That being said it does greatly aid in the moisturization process but it in itself is not going to give you moisture. The featured ingredients are raw shea butter, argan oil and coconut oil.
Shea ButterSeals moisture into hair
Argan OilRevives dry dull hair and reduces frizz.
Coconut OilIncreases hair shine and strength
I applied this after the lemongrass leave in to hold in all the moisture. It worked great. My hair still had great slip so that I could style it easily and with minimal tangling. My hair felt hydrated and soft. A little goes a long way so go slow or your hair (and hands) will feel greasy. I personally don’t mind a greasy feel but I know it bothers some people. The smell of this is also a strong sweet smell. It reminds me of fruit punch. Yum. Please refrain from eating all 3 products just because they smell like familiar deliciousness.

In conclusion….just read the title.
